Above the Curve Nail Lacquer: Harry Potter Inspired Collection Part II

Press Sample

Today I have the second half of the Harry Potter Inspired Collection from Above the Curve Nail Lacquer!! I was very happy to have been asked to review the second half of the collection as well. Being a Harry Potter fan, this of course, made me super giddy! I loved the first half of the collection, which included Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Patronus Charm, and Wingardium Leviosa.

This part of the collection includes Polyjuice Potion, Sirius Black, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Spectrespec.

Polyjuice Potion is a vivid green with small green glitters throughout. This one is on the sheer side. For the photos below, I painted four coats and there is still a bit of visible nail line. I don't mind working with sheer shades, but if you don't like that, you can later it over a similar green or white. The formula was great and smooth. There were no issues there. I love how the layers make the glitter look multi-dimensional. This is also a glow in the dark, but I fail at glow in the dark photography. Sorry! I tried, but the photos just didn't look right.

Ravenclaw is much more beautiful in person. I couldn't capture the duochrome shift, but it has glints of purple in it. It reminds me of the iridescence in a raven's feather. It is also holographic! It has a similar formula to Gryffindor from the first half of the collection. I painted three coats for opacity. It has a bit of texture when it dries from the glitter, but I wouldn't call it a texture polish.

Sirius Black is one of my favorite characters. This polish is really nice, it is black with holographic shimmer in it. I only needed two coats for this one. It has a great formula as well.

Slytherin is a green multi-chrome. I tried to capture some of the shifts below. It also has some scattered holographic glitter! This one also only needed two coats and had a great formula.

Spectrespec is a multi shape iridescent glitter topper. It has flakies, bars and hex glitters! I coated it over Sirius Black for the photos. The first photo is without top coat and the second has a matte top coat. I left my ring finger alone for comparison. I only used one coat. It applies nicely and I didn't really need to dab it or place it like some other glitters.

Here is the nail art I did for the collection. I painted a goblet for Polyjuice Potion.

Bird feathers for Ravenclaw.

Sirius' tattoo from the movie. I don't think the book mentions them, but I thought it would be an interesting touch.

The snake for Slytherin.

I decided not to do nail art just yet for Spectrespec. I want to think about that one a bit, but I'll do something soon! I loved this collection! The whole thing is really fun and cohesive! I appreciate the different types of polish and unexpected colors. The formulas varied, but were all easy to apply and looked beautiful! You can buy these in their shop, linked below and I have also linked their Facebook below as well! Thanks for reading! Mischief managed!

  8. Sirius Black looks a bit textured in the swatch pics, is it textured? Love the inspiration for each polish!

  9. Wow I'm surprised the green one is so sheer! For some reason I thought, based on the bottle, it would be thick! Go figure. Love your photos!

  16. It is a tiny bit textured, but I think it is just the glitter making it textured.
