Julie G Gradient

I decided I needed a distinctly summery look because it has actually been really hot here in the Pacific Northwest. It was actually 90 degrees today! I went with a design that looks like a tequila sunrise and added some white glitter. I used Julie G Canary Islands, Old San Juan, and Miami Beach. The glitter I used is Sephora Formula X Wham!.

Nail Art Inspired by a Tumbler

Affiliate Links

I have a fun spring look for you today! I recently picked up a new tumbler for water from Target for a great deal. I haven't seen it there since, but I found some others online that I also love here, here and here. I love it, it instantly reminded me of nail art, so of course I had to create a design for this.

The Polished Bookworms: Nail Art Inspired by Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

In addition to my love of nail polish, I love reading. Many of you know this about me. I recently joined a book club which combines the two called The Polished Bookworms! The book for January was Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. The plot took many unexpected turns, and was definitely a drama. One of the things I really appreciated about the book was that she covered some darker issues that some people may not want to think about at all. I appreciated that most. The group will be doing nail art at the end of each month that is inspired by the book we have read. Here are mine:

Nail Art: #31DC2014 Day 9 Rainbow

Press Sample

Today is rainbow day! I had tons of ideas for the challenge today, but I decided to go with a water marble and some dots over a beautiful sparkle polish! I started with Daily Hues Ashlyn from her new Fall Collection. I will have a swatch post for you soon on the polishes I received from that collection. For the rainbow colors I used Julie G's summer collection! I swatched those as well, and I was really impressed. I didn't know they water marbled well until I tried it here!

Swatch and Review of JulieG 2014 Summer Collection

I have to say, JulieG hasn't been a brand I've been really excited to try out. I see it at Rite Aid all the time, but I am usually scouring for other brands. I never thought to look at JulieG until Young Wild and Polished professed her undying love for the polish on her youtube channel. You should check her out, she is really funny and gives really honest (brutally honest) reviews of makeup, skin and nail products on her channel. I am constantly checking to see if she has uploaded a new video yet. Anyway, after she talked about JulieG non-stop, I figured I should try it out. It is really affordable at $3.99 a bottle and available at Rite Aid, like I said. I saw a deal on Groupon for the whole Summer Collection for $12, so I figured this was my chance to see if I like it. I received 6 polishes and I have swatches of all of them for you today!

Nail Art: Memorial Day Poppies

It is Memorial Day. Today is a day when we take the time to honor our fallen soldiers and remember the cost of our freedom.

I was given a challenge to create a nail art design for Memorial Day without using red, white and blue. I decided to try poppies, since they are supposed to symbolize remembrance. I decided to do a sunset gradient with grey and black poppies (since I couldn't use red). I'm not sure the poppies really look like poppies, but that is what I was going for here. I used Julie G Miami Beach and Old San Juan.

Nail Art: Green Chevrons and Dots

Recently I did a fun mani that mimicked the two manis I did for my mom and my mother in law for Mother's Day. I did polka dots for my mom and chevron stripes for my mother in law, so I felt like combining them into one look. I used all green polishes. I started with a base of Julie G Tahiti and on my pointer and pinky fingers added dots with China Glaze The Grass is Lime Greener and finally added chevron stripes with OPI Gargantuan Green Grape.
