Swatch and Review of Island Girl Trio

So a while ago I created a Neon Tribal Print design with these three Island Girl polishes that I received from a good friend (hi Hollie!). I just realized that I never did a full swatch and review for you! I can't believe I didn't realize this earlier because I love these colors! Unfortunately I don't have names of these polishes, but they come in a set and are sold wherever Island Girl is sold- predominately in Hawaii and Las Vegas as far as I know. I did hear from a reader that they are sold in Guam as well. So, for this post I will call them pink, coral and teal.

Pink is up first and is a beautiful neon. This one screams Barbie! I have said other pinks are Barbie pinks, but this is what Barbie would wear to the beach! I used three coats here, the polish formula isn't the best, but it isn't terrible either. It is a bit chalky and doesn't completely level itself. I didn't add top coat so you can see how it isn't completely even, but isn't bumpy either.

**Update- a reader informed me that she thinks this pink is Molokai Dream, I haven't been able to confirm, but from her photo of the bottle, she seems correct. So, I will tentatively say this is Molokai Dream! Thanks Tricia for the information!**

Next is Coral, wow, I had a difficult time photographing this one. It is definitely eye searing! Sorry if it looks crazy on your computer. This really reminds me of China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy. I would say this one is a little more orange than pink, but it is definitely a coral. Same application issues as Pink, but this one dries to a matte finish. I also used three coats here, and one thing I forgot to mention is that the polish is somewhat thin, so it does have a tendency to want to pool in your cuticles.

Teal is my favorite, but probably only because I love all the teals! This one was also three coats, it was the closest to being able to use two, but I went for three just in case. It dries glossier, but does still have the pooling issue, streakiness and all the other issues mentioned above.

Despite all of the application issues, I love these colors! Seriously the pastel quality of these neons is so beautiful. This is one of those collections that I can completely accept its shortcomings because of the colors. If I travel to destinations with Island Girl, I will definitely be picking up some more of their beautiful colors! I have been eyeing a few really unique ones. Now, I just have to plan that trip to Hawaii. Do you have and Island Girl? What is your favorite shade? Let me know in the comments!

  2. Beautiful polishes. Bummer that there were application issues. Does it drive you nuts where there are no names? I hate having a bottle of polish without a name on it, goes against every OCD fiber in my body. ;)

  3. That is the thing that bothered me the most!! I've tried to google for names, but I think they were left unnamed. I kind of want to write to them to see if they can give them names!

  5. I think Disqus ate my first comment! LOL! Anywho...I really think these are all so pretty and you did a great job swatching them despite sub-par formulas. I will have to say the pink is my favorite, simply because I've been lusting after Barbie pinks lately for some reason (Zoya Kitridge is currently on mah toes). I love the blue too though.

  6. If these had a nice formula, they would be perfect. Thank you!

  7. Thank you! I was specifically thinking of Kitridge when I said Barbie pinks. This is brighter!

  8. These are all lovely! They remind me of the shades in the Julep Resort Collection (which is a good thing)! I've never tried Island Girl, but in my hometown (super small) I remember going into a tourist store and seeing a small display with some of their polishes on it... At the time I wasn't in to polish and I was only mildly intrigued by the fact they transitioned with the temperature so I left them. But now when I look back I get annoyed at myself for not picking a few of them up!! Haha.

  9. Your swatches look effortless! The formula sounds like maybe the pastel China Glaze neons? Hmm, I have to wonder if China Glaze is also Island Girl and Salon Perfect... I'll put up with a finnicky formula for these lovely colors though.

  10. Thank you! They actually were worse than the China Glaze pastel neons (Grass is Lime Greener and At Vase Value), but totally worth it!

  11. Aw, missed opportunity! I haven't gotten my Julep box in quite a while, maybe I should have!

  12. Great swatches! I'm always intrigued by this brand because it seems like it's so hard to find them since they're only offered in a few places. These colors are all really pretty and the teal one is my favorite!
