Nail Art: #31DC2014 Day 6 Violet

I almost posted this one the same day as the challenge for #31DC2014! At least now I can say I am caught up with this daily challenge. I can't believe how difficult it is to keep up with this, but I think I am creating some really interesting new looks! Today the challenge is violet, I'm not sure what shade of purple violet is, so I just went with a purple I love and haven't used recently. I started with a base color of Orly Saturated from their recent Baked collection. Love this deep purple crelly. It is so luscious! I have been seeing a fabulous take on the turquoise nail look by Oh My Gosh Polish and The Nailasaurus, and I thought, why should that effect be restricted to a turquoise look? I decided to recreate it for today's challenge! Instead of using black and gold I used a shimmery somewhat sheer red and a gold. I used Revlon Blackberry, which I got ages ago, you can't even read the front of the bottle anymore! I did this separated water marble with that color first then again with OPI Love.Angel.Music.Baby. which has fast become one of my favorite gold colors. This was from the Gwen Stefani collection. It was an amazing collection!

The red is really subtle here, but I think it adds a nice layer of dimension. I was trying to figure out all day what second color to use, then I saw it and knew I wanted to use that one. I never understood why it was called Blackberry though. It doesn't look anything like blackberries. I think a couple of my nails turned out a little weird, but overall I like the look. Be sure to watch the Oh My Gosh Polish video linked at the top to learn the technique. To separate the polish in the water I used a perfume I don't care for anymore. Bad choice, the whole area smelled like perfume and it irritated my eyes because I sprayed so much! I had tried hairspray before but my hairspray is too powerful, so I am still on the hunt for a good spray to use. Have you tried this technique before? I have yet to nail it, but I like how these turned out! For more details about the challenge see the FAQs below. To see my previous posts for this challenge, I have linked them all below! 1. Omd I love these! I use a little 3oz pump spray bottle filled with isopropyl alcohol to do water spotting and it works nicely.

  11. You should definitely try it! It is much easier than water marbling (in my opinion) but has a really interesting look.

  14. I love the purple for water spotted technique! It's true that turquoise seems like the obvious choice but changing and making something different leads to unique creations, right??
