American Horror Story: Freak Show begins its tale in the quiet, sleepy hamlet of Jupiter, Florida. The year is 1952. A troupe of curiosities has just arrived to town, coinciding with the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American carny experience.
This brings me back to the nails. I wanted to celebrate the premier with two techniques I have never tried: letters and splatter. Can you tell where this is going? I am not very good at painting realistic subjects, but I wanted to try my hand at letters. Take a look:
Before anyone asks, no, I am not sponsored by the show. I am no way affiliated with the show at all. I am just a crazy fan! There is a lot to take in with these nails, but I like them! I based the stripes on the carnival tent theme I saw all over the website. The dark background is Ruffian Crie Noir and over that I sponged a little bit of China Glaze Pelican Grey to get that sort of distressed look. For the tent stripes, I had a hard time finding the right color. I decided to start with a base of China Glaze Pelican Grey and sponge on Zoya Cho to create a distressed sort of curtain look. I then added somewhat uneven stripes of Zoya Pepper, which is more of a brick red. I did the words in acrylic that had been watered down too much, but I kind of like the overall effect. It is a bit ghost-like. Lastly I added some blood splatter, which was kind of fun! I figure that every season of AHS has blood, so why not? I mattified it all because it seemed appropriate, and because I haven't gotten over my matte all the things attitude yet! So, what do you think? I know it won't be to everyone's liking, but I consider it equivalent to a piece of modern art. Not everyone will understand it, but hopefully they can appreciate it. Will you be watching this season? What are you most excited about? Let me know in the comments below! Thanks for reading as always!
